I've played with the Bricscad 5 demo and they continue to do a lousy job w/ layer management. How these intellicad based programs can do such a great job of emulating autocad, yet ignore such an important command feature like saving and restoring layer states is beyond me. I hope that at least one of the intellicad based programs will pick up this ball and run with it. I sound like a whiner because I am wrestling with the reality of having to shell out the 3k for Autocad unless version 5 improves this feature. Am I the only one who requires a solid version of this feature?

My version does that but it does not work as fast as the scripts I use and it's not so easy to modify to include new layers. Lisp could also be used. For me it's a minor issue in an overall comparison, but if you think it makes the program worth ten times the price go for it.

The latest (5.0.0018) Bricscad release has fixed an important problem for layer management routines, the lisp entmod function calls a full regen of the drawing for each layer manipulated. This makes restoring layer states unbearably slow. In fact I have a save/restore layers routine more or less completed, but I never made it public because of the entmod bug. Time to blow some dust off the routine now.
