ROTATE3D command

#1
Hello everybody!
I am very happy to be a part of your community now.
While I am proficient in AutoCAD, I am new to IntelliCAD. The transition from 2D was smooth, but I am encountering challenges with 3D.
Can anybody help me with ROTATE3d command?

I am seeking assistance with the ROTATE3D command. My goal is to rotate the plane to align with the roof plane, as depicted in the attached image, using the "REFERENCE ANGLE" option. Unfortunately, the process is not yielding the expected results.

Could anyone assist me with the following queries?
- offered "Reference Angle" is 0 - what should I click?
- what does "second point" stand for?
- what does "new angle" stand for?

I appreciate any guidance you can provide.
Thank you,
Aleksandra

Hi Aleksandra,
You are welcomme. I am Patrick and I will explain you with my few knowledge of IntellCAD'3D:
In fact it's easy you must use the working plan XY. This plan is the base of 3D.
When, you start IntelliCAD your XY plan is your 2D workinn plan as the top view.
But when you willl work in 3D you must change your working plan and all becomme easy as rotate command in 2D.

So with your example you must change your XY plan perpendiculare to the rotation axe like that;
Use the new UCS and choose with 3 points:

And then chose the first point where you want to install your UCS :

Like you see the XY is now the perpendiculare plan to the rotation axe.
Now if you click on "Haut" in my picture or "Top" in english.
You view change in front of your your rotation axe. It's easy, no?

So if you want rotate your green plan, select it and use the 2D rotate fonction and use the option "Base angle".
Choose the point of rotation and then "Base angle" and select the point of rotation as first and the extremity of your green plan as second.
Then chose the target of the second point and Voilà !

Of course you must change UCS to the world after your rotation.

Hi, Patrick!

Thank you so much for your response! This is a great "workaround":

You know, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out ROTATE3D (Reference Angle) command. There is nothing on entire internet regarding the issue (On BricsCAD forums I saw that they have the same problem, but the solution is also changing UCS).

In this case, let's ask software developers either to remove the entire ROTATE3D command, or to simply remove Reference Angle command from the entire programme, to avoid misleading other people.

IF THE "ROTATE3D-REFERENCE ANGLE" COMMAND IS FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY, I AM INVITING THE SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS TO EXPLAIN HOW IT WORKS.
OTHERWISE, I AM ASKING THEM TO REMOVE THE COMMAND.

As simple as that.

Many regards,

Hi Aleksandra,
Going back to your original post.

The points being asked for are, I belive, the start and endpoints of the 'rotation axis'
I have just done this task in 13.0 and created a VERY simple video to try and help:-

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/28hnv4gd ... 48goy&dl=0

Sequence is:
select entity to rotate
select endpoint 1 of rotation axis
select endpoint 2 of rotation axis
enter angle of rotation (or in my case select via pick point)

No Steve, Alexandra have tried this method and pick point don't work
I have tried too.... There aren't explanations about these picking points !!! That is the problem!

Alexandra there are a second method without UCS when your rotation axe is parallel to the World XYZ, use the 3D positioner :

But stay open the menu and select the red circle to rotate.
This method work but no precise !

I have just downloaded and installed 13.1
13.1.462.161266.PE+.VC17.x64.CMS131

The rotate3D works as before. ?????

copied from the command bar:

Command: _ROTATE3D
[FILter]/<Select entities to rotate>: 146582.5512,-10622.519,0
Entities in set: 1 found
[FILter]/<Select entities to rotate>:
Select axis by: [Entity/Last/View/Xaxis/Yaxis/Zaxis]/<2 Points>:

Select points for the axis as before:
Then:
[Reference]/<Rotation Angle>:
'Ref' (enter)

Now I get:
Reference Angle <0>:
Select the point on the rotation axis
then:
Second point: (for Angle <0>)
then:
New angle :

At this point things go astray, as the object rotates about the defined axis selecting a point to align with does not work!! :(

here is a video of what I did (might be easier to follow):

You see now the problem.....Weird!

BUT I succeeded I found the solution :
I thought about the problem of snapping to points and I understood that it was the XY plane of the reference frame that worked.
So the solution is to create a UCS reference frame by placing its origin on the rotation point.
Then we use the 3D rotation in the new UCS and then we choose the reference on the line starting on the rotation point of our green plane and for the 3rd point the target point. And the rotation is done correctly :
Warning: The firts point of the axe of rotation define the plan XY where the snapping of point is defined.

The point sectected here is where the perpendicualre plan of snapping is activated !

Hello Patrick and Steve!

Thank you so much for trying to solve this problem.

I have found another, useful "workaround". It works exactly what ROTATE3D+Reference should do...
It is command ALIGN. It works both in 2D and 3D. Please, check out my video:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZQQ27H ... sp=sharing

But still, I do not understand IntelliCAD policy... This is a very complex software, and if nobody from us (users) can decipher their commands, they should react and help. Am I right?

Apart from tutorials, which are really basic, we should have some kind of manual. Specially for advanced drafting.

First: creation of the new UCS :
1 : Order for UCS in red !

2nd : Definition of the rotation axe with the 3D rotation command:
2 : Order for rotation axe in bleu !

3st: creation of the reference angle with the reference parameter :
3 : Order for Reference of angle in green !

Hi, Patrick!

Well, my initial problem with changing the UCS was with the layout of my building. It is not perpendicular; therefore it would be very difficult to set the "Z" value to align to the axis of rotation.
Actually, that would not be so difficult, but time consuming. In this case, I would have to draw two additional 3D lines to conform X and Y axes.

This is why 3DROTATE+Reference was so important for me.

But when you create your UCS, let use with Z axe instead of 3 points and choose the rotation axe only :
