Hello, again,

I have been having virus problems with Windows '98; I swear an infected java script turned off my antivirus software, enabling a Trojan to run.

Well, I cleaned up the hard drive, reinstalled the operating system and anti-viral software (with update), installed all system update patches (Direct X was one of them) to prevent future entry of viruses unknown, only to find some of my software locks up. I reinstalled those that petered out; IntelliCAD PE v3.1 2001 was one.

I think the following problem was always present, but since IntelliCAD ran in the past, I dismissed it. After a successful install, I got one error message - a vba6.msi error.

Now, I have gone to

and surmise I may have to install this manually, but what will this gain me?

Does IntelliCAD use .vbi scripts to function at 100% efficiency?

I do get some program crashes when I use the Intersection Snap in 3D or sometimes when I use the edit vertices function when editing 2D Polylines - the program simply does not respond to mouse input.

Neither the escape key, nor the key sequences, ctrl-c and ctrl-z, have any effect - I have to kill the process using ctrl-alt-delete, and selecting end task (4 times before it actually takes effect).

I have grown accustomed to saving my work frequently, before attempting things that I know crash the program at times.

There is no need to manually install VBA for IntelliCAD to work.

That is providing you have no need to use the VBA IDE to program and you will never be using programs written in VBA.

Programs using VB will still run because the Object Model can still be accessed.

Do you have any input as to why the program "hangs" on occasion?

I have been using ICAD from 98 to version 4 and have only had problems when testing my programs that have bugs in it (there's a confession for you)

There are many users that have "Hanging" problems while using ICAD and it seems to me that these can occur when their operating systems are a little unstable.

ICAD was developed on Windows NT then XP and these produce the most stable platform.

Windows 95, 98 and ME produce the most unstable platform and could be the root of the "Hanging" problems.

Heavy use of paperspace has also caused problems along with using AutoCAD drawings as a template.

Overall ICAD is a good product that heavily uses the OpenDWG libraries and the operating system and any problems with these makes ICAD appear buggy.

Overall stability has been improving with each version and it will be interesting to see how stable ICAD is with ACAD 2004 drawings.
