I already use Intellicad v12 PE, but would like to trial v.13.

Is it possible to run a trial without uninstalling or over-writing v12 first?

I loaded v.13 and opened my v.12 file while v.12 is installed.
THEN I saved my file in v.13 and cannot open that file in v.12
My v.12 license is active... and I believed my license allowed free upgrade... but I am not able to upgrade... hard to navigate license.

Check which version you are saving as in both 12 & 13, it sounds like you have 13 set to a higher version than 12 can handle.

In my case, reinstalling the v.12 will resolve the problem.
(can open any drawing)
