Hello,

I am running CMS IntelliCAD 2001A PE on a Pentium II, 400 MHz machine, running Windows '98 with 192 MB of ram.

I spent most of yesterday doing a 3D drawing; file size, 490KB.

Today, when I tried to load it into IntelliCAD, I get a window, in it is written:

"Failed to open document

This program has performed an illegal operation
and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program
vendor."

My other (and smaller) drawings can be successfully loaded.

I have been getting,

"This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program

errors while making some of my drawings prior to this, so I uninstalled the program, and then reinstalled it.

The installation process finally came to the last window (DOS) and it complained

"vba6.msi

error in installation"

It continued to run until I got the successful(?) installation window.

I clicked on the reboot in the prompt window to continue installation.

I opened the IntelliCAD window. It is running. I chose my drawing, I can see it in the preview window, but I get the same error message as before when I attempt to open (load) it.

The problem is persisting so I am now contacting you. What do I do now?

Not sure if I can help but here goes:

vba6.msi is the installation routine that must be run prior to using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) in IntelliCAD.

CMS has a batch file that runs vba6.msi during installation of the PE edition of ICAD.

ICAD can run without the vba6.msi being executed, as in the demo versions run without VBA.

Check your installation of VBA by typing VBA at the command prompt, your VBA IDE should display if VBA is correctly installed.

There was some stability issues using Windows 98 and ICAD and it was recommended that Windows 98 second edition be used.

ICAD is tightly bound into the Windows operating system and any errors in the operating system causes problems when ICAD attempts to access certain files.

Installing versions of ICAD without cleaning out the Registry between installations have also caused these errors.

The last and final act I propose is to backup your files, format your hard drive and then install from scratch the Windows operating system, MS Office then ICAD. This has proved very successful in the past.

The reason I propose MS Office before ICAD is that MS Office installs the VB runtime files and this provides a good platform for running VBA.
