I went to IntelliCAD 2001 Help and read all about it. xclip looks supported by IntelliCAD however, I haven't tried it out.

You can download the free version and try it then report back what you find.

Xclip worked in the previous version (I have not tried it with the latest version, I assume it will work), however IntelliCAD does not handle xref's as well as it could, in my experience. Most of the drawings I have been editing originated from ICAD 2000 version and there are some backwards compatibility issues that I have run across (even wblocking out entities does not cure it all the time). I have not tried xclip with a fresh 2001 drawing.

Some of the difficulties with xref's that I have/continue to have are:

1. Layer states (what is frozen/thawed) in the xref do not always stay when the drawing is closed and opened again. Some layers will some won't.

2. Xref handling is slow compared to inserting the complete drawing in as a block.

3. Xref's tend to cause more program crashes (on my system).

The above problems may be hightened because of working in ICAD 2000 generated drawings.

With the above being said xclip seemed to work okay.

Here are some general thoughts after two days of fairly comprehensive testing (by one architect and one IT manager). This is based on the latest public build available for free download.

1. Our lisp routines still do not work "off the shelf". It will take a couple days to get them to work properly. But, the point is, it can be done. I have detailed info on the specifics, but too long a list to mention here.

2. X-clipping is supported and works great, even after opening and closing some fairly old drawings.

3. Solid hatching is a bit of a problem, although it's display doesn't seem to impact the drawing file.

4. I haven't figured out how to plot screen colors yet. I'm assuming it's not supported, (again, using the demo for evaluation). Printing is largely similar to Acad14. I thought the GUI for it could be a little more comprehensive (but that's subjective).

5. Compatibility seems to be flawless between Autocad and Intellicad. This is, of course, a huge plus.

6. There are still some commands that aren't command line driven (like the style command). One would like to be able to have lisp add a text style. I can, however, work around this, so no big deal.

7. I did get Intellicad to crash ONCE.

8. Setting a zoomfactor to 100 yields an unpredictable display result when using the scroll mouse to zoom in and out. I had to zoom extents to get my drawing back.

General thoughts: EXCELLENT work! As soon as I'm done with this post I will be buying four licenses. All of my problems were minor in nature. However, if you use hundreds of complex lisp routines involving multiple menu configurations (as some engineers I know do), then this program is not for you. You will spend days reconfiguring your lisps and it will be too much trouble. However, I have four people in the office who are fairly new (and untainted users ) and will love this program. Personally, you guys will get my support, and my money.
