Can you please tell me how this is done. I have worn out the units settings without the desired results. For example, It should be possible to make the North direction at the top of the screen, East to the right, West to the left and South at the bottom. And North should be 0 degrees. Then if entering for example a line at 1000'<N15dE the line would go up to the right corner just off of North. Then from there if a line was drawn 1000'<N15dW there would be a line going to the left side of the screen and the angle between the 2 lines would be 30 degrees. Vice versa for lines drawn to the south. Got any tips on how to make that work please ?

Go to Tools-> Drawing settings.
Select "angular units"
Select "Surveyors units"
The angle base should be "N90dE" (East)

Angle direction should be counter clockwise.

Your command should work OK now.

I appreciate your help. Please set your drawing as you say and then draw a few lines for example N 15d E and then N 15d w and see where they go. Then list them and see what they say. I do not understand why it is not working. Is it a bug or am I losing my marbles.

I did as you said and it works fine.
I am using the latest (I think) demo from CMS Version 4.0.16 on a Windows XP Professional machine.
I can draw the lines by giving a start point then typing: @5<n15de Or: @5<n15dw

When I list the line it lists correct.

Double check you settings, especially the angle direction. It should point to the right.
And angles should read counter-clockwise (IntellicAD makes the proper adjustment).

From other thread http://intellicadms.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000077.html when I tried the unit change from the command line it worked for me. However, when make some more changes, even changing as davep did it came up with some weird results as you suggest.

What does seem to work is to start a complete new drawing:

File
New
Create an entirely new drawing
Decimal
Surveyor's Units

This worked for me.
