Exporting files

#1
I work with 3d Studio for presentational videos. I was wondering if there was a way of opening an 3d AutoCad file in Intellicad and exporting it as a 3ds or something that I can use in 3d Studio. I don't have Autocad to export the file or I would. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I thought that 3D Studio had dwg import. The version I saw on friday last did. Even if your version does not, you could still import it in as a DXF.

If you really want to open it as a 3ds file, pop over to http://synapses.bu.edu/tools/xroads/xroads.stm and download crossroads. Crossroads 3D is a Freeware Windows application written by Keith Rule that can translate between several 3D file formats.

I hope that helps.

When you install 3D Studio Max 2, if you choose custom installation, it will prompt you to to install the DWG import filters.

If you work with 3D Studio Viz, I think it installs the filters by default.

I recently made a model in IntelliCAD, and the file was perfectly imported as a DWG in 3D Studio Viz, no third party software needed.

But anyway, a conversion software is always useful to have.
