On the left the original 3D shape and below the World UCS and at the right the block created by the flatshot cmd !
The origine of the block is at (3.8176 , 3.1027 , 6.5987 ) of the flat drawing ! COULD YOU US EXPLAIN WHY these coordonates please ?

I am only a simple user, not the programmer of CMS !
The flatshot cmd make always the same thing. The origin of this block is always at the same level of the block but where the 3Dshape UCS is.

>>The block it generates seems to have some weird blue square miles off the bottom of it, that blue square is sat on the z zero plane, nothing else.
Weird No It's normal, this weird blue square is the origin of the block . But in block editor you can change the position of this UCS to this block.
To go in block editor, double click on the created flat block.

If you don't know what is a block and the editor, go the Help menu > CMS help F1.

I appreciate the time you have given me on this. I've experimented with moving the UCS and it has no affect on where that blue square is for me. Once I go into block editor, what is displayed in perfectly aligned to x, y, z zero. I'll experiment some more and see if I can get things working right, but it shouldn't be this difficult to get a flat view of a 3d model to make a drawing from.

Thanks again :-)

It's normal you must export out of the file as block. And remove this block of your file, save it and re import your block.
I mean IntelliCAD don't update this block it's may be a bug or something we don't know...

BECAUSE if you click 2x on the created block, in the block editor the UCS is changed but in IntelliCAD the block keep the old UCS. I don't understand why?
I didn't found other solution. Export your block and change the name by security, remove this old block of your file and reimport the new and now the UCS is changed.
It's a bug certainly.

EDIT: I understood something:
The point is where you click to pose your created block, always on the XY plan. If you are in top view the point is on the z=0 level but if you is in right view, the point is always on the XY plan but in this view the plan is in front of you. Look at UCS where is XY.

And here I created my flatshot in right view and XY is changed!!!!

I drawn a cross where I choose my click .

Look the block editor there are a dimension to insertion !
Type 0,0,0 and the block will become normal!

ALL IS OK NOW ! Change the display of the block editor to see the "insertion point" column and correct the point.
And then if the UCS of the block is not where you want, click 2x on the block and change the origin of the block.

I made a lot of test and it's ok now BUT I don't see why the flatshot make this gap for the insertion point and the block UCS.
