I'm trying to draw a box that contain a groove (picture a piece of tongue and groove wood only the groove on the face).
The finished piece will have several grooves inset from 3 of the edges of the face.

To practice I started with a 3-D box, then drew a second 3-D box representing the groove. One face of each box is in the same x-y plane. I then tried to use the subtract function to combine the objects. It doesn't seem to do anything - no error message, no change to the drawing.

I tried a second approach. I thought of removing the faces that are in the common place & adding 2 new faces to connect the objects. I can't get delete face to work at all. It appears the correct face is selected but then I get an error message, "Can't complete this operation" when I try to do the delete.

Can someone suggest an approach to accomplish this task?

I'm not sure if you have ICAD 4 PE +, but if so you could just draw a profile of the shape you want with a continuous polyline, then use the "extrude" command to extrude it into a 3d solid.
