I also use OpenOffice.org

I don't use cut and paste. I import text files using a LISP routine I wrote.

You can get a copy of TableIn.lsp here http://delapp.com/cad/
It is Free Software, released under the Gnu GPL license.

Here is how I use it:
-Create a spreadsheet with all formulas and data I need and save it.
-Highlight the stuff I want to output and copy.
-Paste Special into a new spreadsheet, paste strings and numbers but NOT formulas or formats.
-Add formatting header (see Tablein.lsp) if this spreadsheet did not start from a template with the formatting already there.
-Save As, and select Text/CSV file format. Check the Edit Filter Settings box. In next dialog box check Fixed Column Width.
-Open a drawing and use Tablein to import the table.

This version of Tablein only does text entities. It will not handle multiline (word wrapped) text cells yet.
