How to hide dimensions?

I would like to hide dimensions in certain views, especially when I'm working in 3D. I suspect there is an easy way to do that, but I just can't seem to find it.
If it were me I would have all my dimensions on specific named layers which I could turn on/off as required.
Normally I have only a single dimension layer, but no reason you can't have more just depends on your layer naming.
