Offset ellipse problem

What I did is:
1) I draw a ellipse;
2) I offset it;
3) I draw two lines passing though the original ellipse and the offset ellipse;

This question is:
I can trim the original ellipse, but
I cannot trim the offset ellipse.

Thank you again, the question 2 had been solved but...
Any simple or easier ways to solve question 1?
Compare with other CAD software, it's very very simple, to draw a line through the circles tangent.

Problems

I'm having the following problems:

1.Cannot draw a line which is tangent to two circles and
2.Cannot draw an arc passing through three defined points.

Is there ways to get around the above problems?
